As the first week of January was spent in Costa Rica, not a lot could really one-up that bird-wise. I saw 339 species of birds in January alone, and by the time we had left CR, Peter and I were 2 and 3 on the eBird Top 100 for the world. Getting back from CR, I almost felt like I needed a break from birding... For two whole weeks we had gone so hard that I was just a little worn out, but we did still get out to get some local birds and beef up our yearlist.
I really didn't take too many photos at all the rest of the month, but the adventures were still pretty epic.
Below pictured is a set from a fun evening of gulling at Monroe Harbor where we spent some time photographing a really sharp Thayer's Iceland Gull.
By the 15th I was back home in Colorado ready to bike, climb, and explore. This month was when I kinda realized that I need to run myself around doing something cool almost every day (a friend of mine said it's like I'm taking myself as a dog for a walk) to stay motivated and happy, so on the first day back when I saw there was snow in the forecast for the rest of the week, I knew I needed to get out and bike. By the end of the month school had ramped up, everything was snowed in, and a little bit of seasonal depression hit... It all ended up being fine by the start of February as the snow started to melt and temps started to rise.
